INTRODUCTION
Idlewyld Manor is an Accredited, not-for-profit, charitable long-term care facility situated on Hamilton's west mountain. The facility sits on a picturesque 14-acre corner lot, dotted with trees and gardens and is home to 192 residents.
Idlewyld Manor is a leader in providing exemplary long-term care to Hamilton and the surrounding community. We have a home-like setting, with a focus on emotional and physical well-being. As a human service organization, we believe in the uniqueness and dignity of each individual. We support the individual’s right to independence, personal decisions, and consideration for their health and safety. We are accredited by the Canadian Council on Health Services Accreditation. The Manor is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors, and operated by professional staff under the direction of an Executive Director. The Manor is accountable to meet the Ontario Ministry of Health Long Term Care standards.
History of Idlewyld Manor
Idlewyld Manor is steeped in a rich history of community service, and celebrated its sesquicentennial anniversary (150 years) in 1996.
- The first two ladies were admitted to the first residence, located on Wellington Street South, in 1877.
- The former building opened in November 1958. In 1959, The Garden Club of Hamilton presented and erected a pair of beautiful wrought iron gates at the entrance to the property. They were a gift from "Idlewyld", the estate of the late Col. Gordon and Mrs. Henderson. Thus, in 1964, the name Idlewyld was added to The Aged Women’s Home
- In 1982, the name of the facility was officially registered as “Idlewyld Manor".
- June 2000 – The Ontario Ministry of Health and Long Term Care awarded Idlewyld 96 new beds
- The new facility constructed on the 14 acre site opened in May 2004
HOW DO RESIDENTS GET INTO IDLEWYLD?
The Community Care Access Centre (CCAC) admits all our residents to Idlewyld Manor through a referral process. They can be reached at 905-523-8600 or 1-800-450-8002.
