APPROVED MINUTES

PRESENT:  Cindy Allen, Mary Newman, Barb Vacon, Amanda Rogers, Ann Bennett, Anne Ross-Muschallik, Beth Hibbard, Bill Bota, Bob Hibbard, Bruce Hamilton, Clarke Miller, John Bouman, Margaret Cross, Margaret Figliola, Nan Uzbalis, Rose Linton, Vinzi Calder

 

  1. CALL TO ORDER:   6:33 PM

 

  1. GUEST SPEAKERS: Bahar Karimi, Administrator

                                    Nicole Bassarab, Resident and Family Advisor

 

  • Bahar advised the new Co-ordinator, Recreation and Volunteer Services will be Brad McCulloch. He will start on July 26, 2021.
  • 90% of staff at Idlewyld Manor are now vaccinated. A new vaccine policy will be in effect by the end of July

In answer to questions asked / concerns shared, Bahar and Nicole advised the following:

  • General visitors and Essential Caregivers no longer need to wear a face shield. Staff must wear eye protection.
  • 10 people are now allowed at outdoor or indoor supervised visits. NOTE:  a maximum of 10 people are allowed in the garden and/or in the Celebration room at one time
  • Bahar continued to encourage everyone to advocate for our loved ones living in LTC
  • As COVID funding is no longer available from the government, the USWs hours have been reduced.
  • High Intensity Needs funding is separate government funding for one on one care
  • New employees and others entering IM who do not have family members living at IM are required to take a 7 to 8 hour training course

  1. CHAIR’S REMARKS:

5.1 Update on essential caregivers:  As discussed by Bahar and as advised in the July 6, 2021 newsletter

5.2 August 10, 2021 meeting:  Will advise by 4:00 pm on the day of the meeting if we will meet in the Memorial Garden or via Zoom (depending on weather)

5.3 Update on Move to Make It Happen:  $17,000.00 was raised by IM; over        $100,000.00 raised by the Thrive Group overall

5.4 Upcoming Events:  Special monthly luncheons in each area.  Residents are required to sign up in advance.  There is a fee.  It was suggested milk shakes and pureed desserts may want to be considered so all can participate.  Campfire sing a longs are also planned for July.

5.5 Fundraising ideas for fall/Christmas were also discussed but no plans were finalized due to COVID restrictions

 

  1. Ongoing Business

 

6.1   Employee Recognition:   Certificates were distributed at a staff luncheon

6.2   Garden Committee:  John Bouman donated and had a tree planted outside the front door in his wife’s memory.  The tree will be tri coloured. A plaque will be added.  Marianne Hobson’s lilac standards in memory of her mother have been planted in the Memorial Garden.

 

 

  1. NEW BUSINESS:
    • Staff Testing Procedures concerns were raised
    • A Financial Statement for IM was requested as it has been a number of years since we have been provided with an update
    • Brad McCulloch will be invited to the next meeting
    • It was requested the Terms of Reference for IM be sent to all members
    • A discussion was held re; pending elections for Family Council Executive. Further discussion and possible nominations to be included at next meeting

 

 

  1. REPORTS:   Treasurer’s Report:

$65.85 cash and $760.15 in the bank; Total $826.00
